Nagoya is famous for its chicken wings, but Hakata, a city in Fukuoka, also has many delicious chicken wing shops.
At Tebaya Senmu Toyo, you can enjoy exquisite Hakata-style chicken wings.

You can enjoy your meal with confidence, knowing that you’re eating domestically sourced meat, which is fresher than imported meat due to shorter transport times and, in my opinion, benefits from better overall farming practices.
The crispy fried chicken wings are made with a sauce that has been aged for a year.
The sauce’s taste is subtle and used as an undertone, like a marinade. They use a high-quality brush to carefully apply the sauce to the meat. The shop has even prepared an instructions sheet to show you how to enjoy every bit of the chicken wing and to make it easier to eat.
There are four varieties of chicken wings using the sauce: Original (seasoned with salt and pepper), Spicy Curry, Spicy Maara, and Yuzu Lemon.
Each flavor is delicious and satisfying. I would order every flavor! One order includes four wings, so if you can manage 16 pieces or go with a friend, go for one order of each! It’ll probably make you thirsty, but fortunately, there is a wide range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks to choose from.
French fries
These are not your typical French fries. They’re more like fried potato chunks, crispy on the outside and soft, fluffy, and hot on the inside. They’re not overly salty, but just right.
Deep-fried tofu
This is a very delicious and healthy option. The deep-fried tofu is topped with chopped spring onion, bonito fish flakes, grated radish, and ginger. Add a bit of soy sauce to enjoy the broad flavor palette.
The rich and flavorful chicken soup is made of slow-simmered chicken bones and also a must-try. It is packed with umami and collagen.
You can order the chicken bone broth soup for only 110 yen or try ‘Ochazuke,’ Japanese rice porridge, a staple in local cuisine. Either way, it’s an excellent source of nutrition, so I highly recommend it.
They offer a wide selection of drinks, including beer, highballs, wine, and sours, which are perfect pairings with fried dishes.
Depending on availability and your level of courage, you can also try ‘torisashi’ (raw chicken) and ‘basashi’ (raw horse meat), a Japanese delicacy. For every order of the same drink, you will get 50 yen off for using the same glass (starting from the second order).
