“canna KIYOSUMI” opened in April 2025 as the second location of the long-established lifestyle store “canna,” based initially in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture.

The owner of canna, originally from Miyazaki Prefecture, has a genuine love for handmade and carefully crafted things. The shop was named after the canna flower, which is one of the symbols of Miyazaki Prefecture, as a way to share a bit of the hometown’s charm. Everything is thoughtfully chosen and beautifully displayed, creating a cozy atmosphere. With its wide variety of unique goods, canna is a great place to stop by if you’re looking for a gift, especially if you’re visiting friends or family and want to bring something meaningful.

“Onta-yaki,” a traditional style of pottery with over 300 years of history, is handcrafted in Hita City, Oita Prefecture.

It has a simple, warm texture that makes it easy to grow attached to the more you use it. This pottery reflects gentle beauty and traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations.

They also offer a range of apparel items, including hats, shirts, and bags.

There were some unique items, like bags made from recycled airplane seat belts and parachute straps! Plus, they sell a variety of products from overseas like the palo santo, which is quite rare in Japan. The mix of local creativity and carefully chosen imports make the shop feel full of little surprises.

They also offer a wide variety of stylish kitchen sponges and other household essentials.

The first time you walk around the shelves at canna, it’s easy to notice the boldest and most colorful items, but with each lap, you start to find more and more hidden treasures. The shop offers a wide variety of handmade kitchen tools, home goods, woven baskets, teas from different regions, small rugs, cutlery, plant pots, decorations, and even works by international artists. One of my favorite finds was a set of sparkly sloth-shaped sponges.

In August 2025, a gallery called “MUSUBI” is scheduled to open on the second floor of the store. It will showcase and sell works by various artists while also hosting workshops.

On weekends, young couples often stop by while out for a walk. Since there are two popular museums nearby, it’s easy to visit if you are in the area. The shop is filled with carefully chosen and interesting items, perfect for taking your time and looking around. Even a short visit can be inspiring. So next time you’re nearby, feel free to drop in, and you might discover something special and get a taste of the charm of handmade goods from Miyazaki and Kyushu.
