ECC Junior Toyocho Station School opened in the year 2000 and has been nurturing the local children’s English skills for over 20 years.

From the moment I walked through the door, I felt like learning too! The classroom is full of colors, stickers, and drawings that instantly create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. In the background, the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” was playing, and it was impossible not to smile. I’m sure children have an amazing time in this class and enjoy every minute of learning English.

A significant feature of ECC Junior Toyocho Station School is its strong focus on extensive reading and reading picture books aloud.

Children are gently guided to read a lot, read aloud, and understand what they read, with support continuing until they gain confidence.

A wide variety of materials is used in class, including these textbooks that encourage children to think in English. They write short texts, read, and participate in conversations on various topics. Every week, they also read short stories and prepare small presentations about them, so they are not only practicing English but also developing other very useful life skills, all without any pressure. If a child doesn’t feel comfortable speaking in public, they are allowed to just read instead.

The classroom is led by Ms. Wakaizumi, whose teaching is highly regarded for carefully observing each student’s level of understanding and guiding them toward English they can understand, use, and apply with confidence.

She provides thoughtful, individualized support to help students truly make English their own. Ms. Wakaizumi has completed the Oxford University TTP and IIEEC TT programs and holds certifications as an ALK Children’s English Instructor and a Public Elementary School English Teaching Qualification.

Ms. Wakaizumi also attended high school in Hawaii. She later worked as a flight attendant for All Nippon Airways and now has over 25 years of experience teaching English. Inspired by those years of her life, her classroom is decorated with a Hawaiian theme, creating a bright, fresh atmosphere that instantly puts you in a happy mood.

Students also develop strong reading and listening skills, as well as the ability to think and respond independently.

Some students gain enough confidence to take part in English speech contests. These experiences open up new opportunities for their future, including the chance to study abroad and better job options.

The Toyocho Station School has been designated as a “Super Learning Enhanced School” within ECC Junior.

This status is awarded only to classrooms recognized for their high learning outcomes, quality of instruction, and well-developed curriculum.

The content they learn is perfectly suited to their age and goes beyond what is usually taught at school. Most of the children who attend regularly achieve top grades in English at school, as they are already very familiar and comfortable with the language.

The EIKEN preparation course is very popular, and students can also take the EIKEN test right in the classroom.

There are currently more girls than boys, but the number of boys is increasing gradually, especially those who love sports like football and basketball and dream of joining an international team in the future.

Currently, the classroom mainly serves elementary and junior high school students.

At this time, enrollment is not available for preschoolers, high school students, or seniors.

Depending on the time of year, different activities are organized in class, such as Halloween or Christmas games. Through these activities, children also receive sweets and small gifts, which helps keep them motivated and allows them to learn almost without even realizing it.

Looking ahead, the school plans to add more classes so that students of different ages and levels can attend in the future.
