The studio has a welcoming atmosphere for people of all nationalities, so anyone can feel comfortable joining.
They offer classes for different levels, and you’ll find students of all ages. What really makes this environment special is the small class size. With fewer students in each class, everyone can clearly see the teacher’s demonstrations and receive personal advice and corrections easily, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Ms. Masayo Shindo, a former professional dancer, began ballet at the age of five and trained for four years in France. She opened the studio in 2011.
When she came back to Japan, her niece was eager to learn from her, which inspired her to open the studio in the first place. What started as small classes for her niece and a few friends soon grew into a ballet studio for both children and adults in the neighborhood.
The studio also offers very reasonable pricing.
Adults can enjoy a trial lesson for 500 yen, and the first lesson for children is free.
Monthly tuition is based on a ticket system, allowing you to choose a plan that fits your lifestyle.
The dress code is relaxed as well—comfortable clothing is perfectly fine when you are just starting out.
I thought the monthly fees are much affordable than what I have seen so far in other areas of the city. Even though the studio is small, there is enough space for two ballet barres, a large mirror, and even a piano.
Some adult students even travel from Chiba and Kanagawa to attend the classes. There is also one male adult student and one male child student currently enrolled.
Despite the mix of ages and genders, everyone gets along well. The teacher’s approach is to always explain everything in a simple, easy-to-understand way, even for children and beginners, and with a smile.
All students practice and repeat the exercises to the rhythm of classic piano music commonly used in ballet classes. The class starts with stretching, and more stretching is added halfway through to avoid putting too much strain on the muscles, especially the legs, which are used a lot.
At Masayo Shindo Ballet Studio, lessons also go beyond ballet technique, nurturing self-expression, beautiful posture, confidence, and inner growth.
