Hidden in a quiet residential neighborhood, “Pitta Bagel & Sweets” is a small, charming bagel bakery.

Pitta Bagel&Sweets

A large, chewy, and densely filled bagel crafted by the owner, who is a licensed nutritionist.

Ever since she was a child, the owner had always dreamed of having her bakery.

Her real inspiration struck during a trip to New York when she tried her first bagel, and it was love at first bite. Fully motivated, she returned to Japan and immersed herself in learning everything about baking, from different types of bread to delicious cakes. That journey eventually led her to open a bakery, turning her lifelong dream into reality.

All bagels at “Pitta Bagel & Sweets” are priced at 350 yen (tax included).

This isn’t the kind of bakery you walk into. It’s more like a little open kitchen right on the street, where the smell of freshly baked bread drifts out and catches the attention of anyone passing by. Her special recipe yields large, satisfying bagels with a generous amount of chewy crumb. She wants each one to feel like an authentic meal, something that fills you up or maybe even leaves a little for later. How does 350 yen sound for a hearty lunch?  The lineup includes a selection of bagels that are always available, along with monthly specials that use seasonal ingredients or are made with new recipes developed in the kitchen.

The most popular item, Apple Cinnamon, is generously made with seasonal apples delivered straight from an apple farm in Aomori prefecture.

This bagel had an exquisitely sweet flavor, and the dough was wonderfully soft and packed with a rich cinnamon taste, but what truly surprised me were the generous chunks of apples hidden inside. There were plenty of them, and because they had been baked into the bagel, they turned incredibly tender. They practically melt in your mouth. Another popular menu among the Japanese customers is the “Mentaiko Mayo” bagel, an example of the shop’s savory recipes.

Seasonal flavors include unique combinations like “spinach and bacon”, “double cheese”, “double chocolate”, and even “orange, cranberries, and cream cheese”.

Recently, more visitors have been coming from afar after seeing the shop on Instagram, and the number of international customers is also growing.

The owner shared that many local grandmothers from the neighborhood visit the shop with genuine excitement, carefully choosing bagels to bring to their grandchildren. At the same time, young couples often stop by to pick up something to take home. With several international schools in the area, the bakery also attracts international customers often grab a few for lunch. It’s a lovely mix of generations and cultures, all coming together over a shared love for good bagel.
