Myofascial Release: an Effective Therapy for Pain Relief
Published: December 18, 2017
Who has never experienced skeletal muscle pain? It is a widespread issue all around the world, and one might even say that it is the “pain of the century”. When moving abroad, it can be tricky for foreigners experiencing such health problems to find a good physical therapist who can manage pain efficiently, but I’ve found one such rare gem in the Monzen-nakacho area: Seitai Momo.
Mr. Kimura, a professional, experienced physical rehabilitation therapist, has been practising specifically Myofascial Release for more than one year.
About Myofascial Release
An American physical therapist, John F. Barnes, developed Myofascial Release in 1960. In Japan, Myofascial Release has become progressively popular in the past three years.
Myofascial Release is an alternative medicine therapy that treats skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles. By applying gentle, sustained pressure on the myofascial tissue, it eliminates pain and restores motion. The goal is to stretch and loosen the fascia and other contiguous structures so that they can move more freely.
By the way, what is fascia? The fascia is a band of fibrous connective tissue that encloses and separates the muscles and other internal organs.
Myofascial pain can have two sources. Pain can be generated from skeletal muscles or connective tissues that are bound down by fascia that is too tight, or from damaged myofascial tissue and trigger points (hyperirritable spots in the fascia).
Anatomical chart are here to help explain the source of pain to patients.
Let’s begin the session!
Mr. Kimura welcomes his patients into the relaxing ambience of his clinic.
The session begins with a questionnaire containing a variety of questions about your health condition and your lifestyle. “Myofascial Release is the therapy of choice for many for relieving pains such as chronic pain, frozen shoulders, back and hip pain and total body fatigue,” explained Mr. Kimura.
Next, Mr. Kimura conducts a preliminary physical examination in order to determine the area to be treated.
The patient lies down on a table, and Mr. Kimura applies pressure to different parts of the body and massages the contiguous muscles.
At the end of the session, Mr. Kimura offers the patient a cup of premium coffee, roasted in the Funabashi area, or a glass of a healthy beverage made with boiled Chinese herbs, ginger, orange, goji berries and other secret ingredients.
I had been suffering from shoulder pains for the past month, so I asked Mr. Kimura to examine my shoulder. After a 30-minute session, I can move my arm again without restriction or pain. What a relief!!! It’s like magic!!! I recommend going for a consultation at Seitai Momo if you’re experiencing similar health problems. Myofascial Release might just be the safe, effective, and affordable therapy you need.
