The Japanese izakaya “Tatsumi,” where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks, has operated in Monzen-Nakacho for about 10 years.

You can enjoy your meal at the counter seats (for 5 guests) while chatting with the owner.

The table seats and the private room in the back (spacious enough for 2 to 8 guests) can be used for various occasions, such as family gatherings or business dinners.

I highly recommend choosing a seat at the counter. Watching the chefs skillfully prepare each dish right before you adds a special touch to the dining experience, making you feel even more connected to the authentic izakaya atmosphere.

At “Tatsumi,” seasonal ingredients and the freshest produce of the day are carefully selected, ensuring that each visit offers a unique dining experience.

The restaurant does not have an English menu, so a basic understanding of Japanese will be helpful when ordering. Luckily, smartphone translation apps can make communication much easier, ensuring you don’t miss out on this memorable dining experience.

Steamed Rice with Eel (Unagi no Meshi Mushi)

This is a classic Japanese delicacy! The tender, flavorful eel melts in your mouth, perfectly complemented by the fragrant steamed rice. This dish captures the essence of traditional Japanese comfort food—rich, satisfying, and deeply savory.

Assorted Sashimi

The assorted sashimi platter features incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth fish, beautifully presented. Each bite bursts with natural flavor, and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. Pair it with a glass of sake to fully enjoy this dsh.

Simmered Bamboo Shoots

This dish is simmered to perfection, offering a delicate texture and subtle earthy flavor.

Lightly seasoned, they allow the bamboo’s natural taste to shine through—a true taste of Japanese spring cuisine.

Salt-Grilled Trout

The salt-grilled trout has crispy skin and tender, flaky flesh. Lightly seasoned, it lets the fish’s natural flavor shine through. What makes it unique here is the generous topping of ikura (salmon roe), which adds a burst of umami and richness to each bite.

The dishes and drinks are also carefully chosen. The menu features a variety of sake and an extensive lineup of shochu, which complements any dish.

Whether you are looking for a cozy spot to enjoy seasonal Japanese dishes or a lively place to share drinks with friends, you can enjoy both at Tatsumi. The warm atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly staff make it a great stop in Monzen-nakacho!
