1.414 Coffee Roastery, which opened in October 2023, is named after the silver ratio (1.414). This ratio is commonly used in the architecture of structures like five storied pagodas and the Tokyo Skytree. It is a proportion that Japanese people find beautiful and familiar.

1.414 Coffee Roastery specializes in high-quality beans known as “top specialty”. All their coffee is hand-dripped, reflecting the owner’s dedication to crafting the perfect coffee.

With a personal love for coffee, this man is self-taught and has done countless experiments with the water temperature which changes depending on the bean, the timing, and so on. He is truly an artisan and expert.

You can enjoy a variety of beans, but the owner recommends the light roast.

All beans are single origin and roasted in-house. Unlike many coffee shops in Tokyo, the selection is quite varied and undoubtedly delicious.

There are usually about six different beans to choose from, and some beans are changed every two weeks.

This rotation ensures that customers always have something new and exciting to try. The frequent updates also allow the shop to showcase a wide variety of flavors and profiles. As a result, coffee enthusiasts can continually discover new favorites with each visit!

The roasting process takes about 10 minutes, and there is a nice special offer of a cup of coffee with the purchase of 150g of beans, so you can wait while savoring your coffee.

All the equipment and tools are high-quality and stylish! The excellent customer service is also demonstrated by the owner’s willingness to generously share his knowledge with customers who are unsure about which coffee to choose.

It is a minimal yet elegant and stylish space. The neutral tones, warm light and jazz music playing in the background on a high-end sound system makes it hard to leave. You can sit at the bar counter or the tables in front.

This café is also a great place to bring strollers and dogs!

Since the entrance side is entirely sliding glass doors it’s possible to open entirely when the weather is nice which gives the feeling of an open patio space, allowing for dogs and strollers to come in and exit easily.

For the quality of the coffee, and the overall experience, the prices are very reasonable. This is a highly recommended shop!
