Inbas Academy Toyosu is an after-school education program focusing on developing children’s life skills.
At Inbas Academy Toyosu, students can develop and enhance their problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, and communication skills through a program of 45 original exercises. These exercises help students acquire fundamental social skills and abilities needed to interact with others and succeed in society.
A unique feature of Inbas Academy Toyosu is the absence of traditional teachers. Four staff members serve not as “teachers” instructing children, but as facilitators encouraging children’s self-discovery.
The instructors insist they are not teachers but mentors or guides. They don’t teach, they guide children to think outside the box and speak their minds. Unlike the traditional passive learning system, they are encouraged to be proactive and contribute.
One of the exercises includes coming up with ideas for solutions that have no one correct answer. These exercises are designed to help children think about how to respond to questions that do not have definitive answers.
We looked at an issue such as waking up late and brainstormed solutions for avoiding this bad habit. Children are challenged to give as many solutions as possible without thinking about whether it’s right or wrong.
Two adjacent walls at the back corner of the room are whiteboards from floor to ceiling; this is where ideas and opinions can be freely written.
Instead of just discussing it, the students write it on the whiteboard to share with everyone and to retain the information better.
Inbas Academy Toyosu is designed for students from third to sixth grade, enabling them to select their favorite themes from problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, and communication skills.
The standard education system focuses on memorizing information and giving correct answers to questions rather than engaging in discussions, expressing opinions, agreeing or disagreeing, and giving reasons. Therefore, I believe that these programs are a necessary investment for the future success of children and for them to have a brighter future.
