“Cafe Parkside,” established 21 years ago, offers a variety of coffees and curries created under the supervision of a three-star chef.

In addition to curry and coffee, the menu features a wide variety of options, including popular fluffy pancakes, pasta, parfaits, and tea.

Many foreign visitors stop by to take a break between their walks around downtown, so the owner likes to grind the coffee beans with an old-fashioned machine at the counter — something customers love to watch, often feeling a sense of nostalgia. Another very special and rare thing I’ve never seen anywhere else in Japan is that Argentine mate tea is on the menu!

Pancake

The pancake comes generously drizzled with maple syrup — it’s actually quite sweet and surprisingly filling, so the fact that it’s just one pancake feels like the perfect amount.

Curry rice

The curry is classic Japanese-style — mildly spicy, gentle, and full of that comforting flavor you would expect from a traditional curry shop.

Coffee

The drip coffee is carefully brewed using the Nel drip method (a traditional cloth filter).

Everything feels so handmade that you can’t help but feel at home, and if you are a cat lover, you might even get to befriend the owner’s little cat (you can spot him in the background of the picture). He is very playful and makes the whole experience even more delightful.

The decor is also fun and unique: tables are covered with fake grass, the sofas have colorful art-print cushions, and the wall-mounted monitor screens shows relaxing scenes of beaches and European cities.

At Cafe Parkside, coffee brewing classes are offered at local culture centers for those who wish to open their own cafe or simply enjoy better coffee at home.

At first, the owner wanted to open a night bar where she could talk with lots of people, but she realized it would be difficult while raising her children. So instead, she decided to open a cafe and learned everything about coffee from scratch, so now she can even teach private coffee classes for those who are interested. The cafe offers a wide selection of coffee beans from places like Kenya, Brazil, and Colombia — and she also sells them for you to take home.

At night, the cafe changes mood —on the wall-mounted monitor, scenes from abroad are displayed, creating a dreamy, heartwarming atmosphere that helps you relax.

Cafe Park Side

Cafe Parkside offers a wide variety of menus and services that everyone can enjoy!

Around the cafe, you’ll mostly find houses — many of them now empty — which makes the area incredibly peaceful, a perfect spot for a quiet walk away from the busy center of Tokyo. Pets are also welcome, and there is even a special menu for dogs, so feel free to stop by and relax the next time you take your furry friend for a stroll around Kameido.
