“Meshi to Sake Toki” is a cozy izakaya (Japanese pub) where you can enjoy daily specials and seasonal sake at the counter or in the standing bar area.

The daily specials are written on the blackboard, and the regular menu also offers plenty of dishes that pair perfectly with Japanese sake and beer.
The menu offers many familiar izakaya foods, each one prepared with exacting care. As well as your favorite comfort foods, you can also try some of their special dishes that are loved by the community. Some of these popular menu items include Maguro Butsu (Chunks of Fresh Tuna), Snow Crab Served in Its Shell, and Nikomi (Japanese Stewed Dish).

A wide selection of seasonal Japanese Sake
The choices of Japanese sake here are selected based on popularity and customers’ requests. This means that for someone coming into the pub for the first time, they get to enjoy flavors chosen by this community. Some of the Japanese sake is chosen based on the season, so there are always new ones for you to try.

Maguro Butsu (Chunks of Fresh Tuna)
The Maguro Butsu is served to you with a perilla leaf (shiso), a generous amount of wasabi, and a soy sauce plate. You pour the soy sauce into the dish, add your desired amount of wasabi into the soy sauce, dip your Maguro, and enjoy. The fish has a rich umami flavor, and the shape makes it very easy to eat.

Snow Crab Served in Its Shell
Inside the crab shell, you can see a layer of toasted cheese. Underneath the cheese is a mixture of crab meat and crab miso. The crab meat inside is surprisingly dense, and paired with the crab miso and cheese, this makes for a delicious, savory experience.

Nikomi (Japanese Stewed Dish)
Inside the Nikomi, you can find an array of root vegetables, motsu meat, and a heap of thinly sliced spring onion on top. The broth is packed with flavor thanks to a generous amount of miso. When all components are eaten at the same time, you get a bite that you cannot forget. This was my absolute favorite dish here, and I will definitely go back and order this.

This pub has an easygoing atmosphere; it is a place where you are encouraged to be yourself and just be present in the moment. The strong feeling of community makes it perfect for customers looking for their regular izakaya. If you are looking for a pub in your area with a bespoke drink’s menu and generous portions of warming comfort food, “Meshi to Sake Toki” is definitely worth checking out.
