“Surasura Soroban in Minamisuna School” is well-regarded for teaching the abacus in an easy-to-understand way while teaching discipline and nurturing children’s emotional development.
Surasura Soroban schools incorporate the Ishido Method educational approach.
The Ishido Method is a unique approach that incorporates the traditional framework of the abacus while making it enjoyable and easy to understand for everyone, from young children to adults.
As part of its development, the method strengthens mental arithmetic and listening-based calculation, activates the right brain, and emphasizes discipline and emotional education. This educational approach is based on the 6 core principles of the Ishido Method.
Inspired by the philosophy of discipline and educational principles, Ms. Ou decided to spread this teaching method and first established the Surasura Soroban school in Kiba.
While raising her young daughter, a student at the school, Ms. Ou decided to become certified and teach the abacus herself. She noticed that her daughter’s classmates could perform challenging calculations at a young age, treating learning as a fun game or friendly competition.
As Ms. Ou says, “I don’t see the abacus as just studying. I want children to approach it with the feeling of playing with their fingers.” True to her words, the sight of children happily engaging with the abacus is striking. The school ensures a solid foundation by thoroughly teaching the basics of finger movements, preventing early challenges.
You start with the very basics, like how to hold your pencil and which fingers to use for movements: index fingers to move beads down and thumb to move them up. From there, you learn very simple additional methods and how to input your results. Ms. Ou gives simple and clear instructions with a friendly and gentle attitude.
The “Ishido Method” incorporates tablets into abacus lessons, although traditional pencil and paper are still used. It also allows students to learn at their own pace.
The 6 core principles of the Ishido Method are personalized education, a small-step approach, visualization control, moral education, competition, and certification. This all-around education, incorporating traditional methods and modern technology, gives children the building blocks for a successful future ahead.
Original cards designed by the students are displayed in the classroom. These cards can be earned by advancing to the levels of the abacus or participating in events and exchanging gifts.
Ms. Ou values spending time with children while teaching abacus and enjoys engaging in fun and creative activities during her free time.
She is always smiling and showing care for their well-being. Not only does she put effort into making lessons fun, but she also participates in local community events and activities.
Surasura Soroban in Minamisuna helps children improve their abacus skills and
nurtures their personal growth.
I would like my children to go to this school because I trust Ms. Ou’s educational style and genuine care.
