“Shinofuji Deli,” a prepared-foods shop in Ojima Nakano-bashi Shopping Street, has been serving the neighborhood for 27 years and is now run by the third generation.

They offer a wide variety of side dishes at very wallet-friendly prices—for example, croquettes for 50 yen, yakitori for 80 yen, and bento boxes for 380 yen.
Even though the bento boxes are incredibly affordable, there is also a tempting selection of small extras — vegetable croquettes, juicy meatballs, grilled chicken skewers, bite-sized fried chicken, or sweet roasted sweet potato. The menu has not changed since the owner’s grandfather first opened the deli, and that consistency is part of its charm. Customers know exactly what they can find and what it will cost, which is why the place remains so popular and full of loyal regulars.

The shop has even been used as a filming location for a TV drama, and they say some fans travel from far away to visit.
It is such a distinctive, old-school spot — the kind you only find in traditional Japanese neighborhoods — that it has become something of a small local landmark. Thanks to the influence of the shows it has appeared in, the shop now attracts plenty of young visitors and international customers, all curious to try a classic Japanese croquette in the very place they saw it on screen.

The owner’s top recommendation: chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken).
Simple, but a true Japanese classic. Crispy on the outside and wonderfully juicy on the inside, these bite-sized pieces of fried chicken are perfectly made for eating on the go.

Fried Squid Legs
Another irresistible little treat. Lightly battered and perfectly crisp, they have a delicate seafood flavor with just the right hint of salt. Served hot and ready to eat, they are a nostalgic dish that feels both comforting and unmistakably local.

Grilled offal
If you like offal, the grilled skewers are worth trying. They are smoky, rich, and full of flavor. It is not for everyone, but offal fans will love it.

A hearty bento box for just 380 yen.
During the interview, a steady stream of customers stopped by to quickly pick up lunch for the day, often adding a couple of small snacks on the side. Along with a serving of white rice, you can choose from several fillings and sides, such as meat croquettes, fried chicken, and other comforting classics.

Many people simply grab a croquette—the most popular item—and enjoy it as they stroll down the street lined with many little nostalgic shops. Payment is easy, too: you can use cash or PayPay.
If you find yourself nearby and have a soft spot for old-school neighborhood charm, it is well worth a visit. Stop by and taste it for yourself — you will quickly understand how this modest little stall has managed to stay popular for almost 30 years and counting!
