“Teppen BY THE SEA” is a truly one-of-a-kind fish store.

The shop also has an eat-in area and offers a unique selection of products, including fresh seafood from Toyosu Market, seafood rice bowls, prepared dishes, fried foods, carefully selected alcoholic beverages from around the world, and apparel.

The stylish yet minimalist eat-in space creates a modern atmosphere that is quite different from what you might expect from a traditional fish store. I was genuinely surprised by the variety of products on display. Honestly, just looking at the displays made me want to buy something. It is the kind of place where the quality and attention to detail are obvious at first glance.

Teppen Don (Seafood bowl)

The quality of the fish was excellent, and every bite tasted incredibly fresh. One detail I especially loved was how the sashimi was placed on a sheet of food-safe paper instead of directly on the rice, which is especially convenient when taking the bowl home. This allows you to warm up the rice in the microwave without heating the fish. Once the rice is perfectly warm, you simply place the sashimi back on top. It may seem like a small detail, but it makes the takeout experience much more convenient.

Monkfish Liver and Squid

The monkfish liver, often called the “foie gras of the sea” in Japan, was rich, creamy, and full of umami without feeling too heavy. Together, they created a perfect contrast of textures and flavors. It is not the kind of dish I would normally order, but after trying it, I completely understood why it is considered such a delicacy.

Oyster
Oysters are almost an institution in France, so I will admit I had high expectations before trying them here. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. They were incredibly fresh, plump, and full of flavor, with just the right balance of sweetness and brininess. If you are an oyster lover, this is definitely one to try.

Ara soup (miso soup with fish parts) is served free of charge when dining in.

Made with fish parts that are packed with flavor, the broth is rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying. It was the perfect companion to my Teppen Don.

Limited-edition collaboration T-shirts, sneakers, bags, and other items created with popular apparel brands are also available.

Finding premium apparel in a fish store might sound unexpected, but it actually makes perfect sense once you meet Mr. Hataya, who showed us around during the interview. He is genuinely passionate about fashion and has brought that interest into the shop. Rather than feeling like random merchandise, these pieces are carefully selected and reflect the same attention to quality and design that you will find throughout the store.

Teppen BY THE SEA offers both dine-in and takeout options, allowing customers to enjoy fresh seafood dishes in a casual setting.

This place completely changed my idea of what a fish store could be. It is not just a place to buy exceptional seafood, but it can also be a destination where food, design, and lifestyle come together. From the beautifully presented products and delicious meals to the carefully curated apparel, every detail reflects the store’s passion for quality.
