Now run by its second-generation owner, “Yakidokoro Doremi” has been a beloved neighborhood restaurant for nearly 40 years.

The restaurant can accommodate up to 41 guests and offers both counter seats and sunken-floor tables, allowing customers to relax and enjoy their meal.

The elements that give the restaurant its character: the elegant black theme, the comfortable sitting cushions, the sophisticated art on the walls, and the intentional layout of the floor, all come together to make Yakidokoro Doremi a unique establishment. Their menu features a wide variety of dishes, ranging from okonomiyaki to grilled crêpe-like desserts.

At “Yakidokoro Doremi,” the staff carefully cooks each okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) right in front of you.

One of the highlights of my experience was how interactive the meal was. Being able to chat with the staff throughout my time there made me feel comfortable and welcomed. The staffs’ willingness to answer all of my questions gave me a deeper appreciation for the establishment and for the dish I was about to devour.

Staff member Ms. Mihoka uses her skilled technique to shape each okonomiyaki into its perfect form.

Before being served the okonomiyaki, I was given the option between four different mayonnaises (regular, chili pepper, wasabi and mustard). I decided to have the spicy mayonnaise and regular mayonnaise. I want to go back and try the rest!

The restaurant’s okonomiyaki is made with more than half of the batter consisting of yamatoimo (Japanese yam), giving it an incredibly light and fluffy texture.

This time, I tried their most popular “Doremi-ten,” filled with seafood and pork, which was prepared by Ms. Mihoka, and the “Whole Camembert-ten,” featuring rich, creamy Camembert cheese.

Unlike most okonomiyaki, the dough was cooked evenly throughout. The combination of sweet and savory flavors, paired with the soft and fluffy texture, gave me a sense of euphoria. The food was just as memorable as the unique atmosphere of the restaurant.

To finish, I had the “Anko-maki” (rolled pancake filled with sweet red bean paste), made by wrapping sweet red bean paste in a thin crepe-like pancake. It was perfectly chewy and very delicious.

“Yakidokoro Doremi” also offers a wide selection of alcoholic drinks that pair perfectly with its teppan dishes.

With over fifty drinks to choose from, you are sure to find something that suits your tastes. The beer lines are cleaned everyday by the staffs to ensure every beer stays consistent and fresh. The spirits are all carefully selected by the owner – no aspect of this experience is overlooked.

If you are in the Kameido area, be sure to stop by and enjoy “Yakidokoro Doremi’s” unique okonomiyaki.
